As a college basketball player at U.C.C., I was volunteering as a Special Olympic basketball coach. D.R.T.F. was hiring at the time so I jumped at the opportunity and I found my niche. I love going to work each day, and I love what we do as an agency. In August 1992, UHI took over the site for D.R.T.F. and UHI made an offer to the employees working at this site to come aboard. I applied for a job with UHI to be able to stay at the site I was working at. I celebrated my 30 years with UHI in 2022. It’s been a great career move and I have never looked back.

The smiles when I could help them make a dream come true was the greatest part of my job!
The one job I always loved was being a stay-at-home mom. The gratification from my happy little world was all I needed some days. On other days I needed a paycheck! I was doing several odd jobs when a friend said that UHI was hiring Direct Support Professionals. I was reluctant for a while, not knowing what I would be doing. Then as things in my professional life became unclear, I took a chance at change.
When I got hired by UHI, they put me right to work with like-minded wonderful people who taught me all the important ins and outs of the DSP world. I found that being a support professional was the most fulfilling profession I had ever experienced. I could bring with me all the knowledge I had gained from my life experience, and apply it to my job. The joy and happiness that I could help people have was the best part of my day. The smiles when I could help them make a dream come true was the greatest part of my job!
